Since Halloween is next week, I thought it would be fun to try and monogram some trick or treat bags using my Brother SE-400 sewing machine.
I found these trick or treat bags at the Dollar Tree and decided to monogram my little nephew’s name on it as a fun little gift for him this Halloween.
Here is a tutorial on how to monogram your own trick or treat bags using the built-in embroidery function on the Brother SE-400 sewing machine.
Review my tutorial on how to use the Brother SE-400 sewing machine for embroidery and monogramming found here.
SEWING MACHINE SETUP:
Step One: Layout Trick Or Treat Bag: Layout your trick or treat bag and determine the positioning of your monogram.
Step Two: Apply Stabilizer To Fabric And Embroidery Frame: Apply a stabilizer to the back of the fabric. This provides a more smooth embroidery outcome. I prefer using a tear away stabilizer for my embroideries, like the one below.
After your finish your embroidery, the stabilizer tears away easily, leaving the finished product.
Step Three: Position Fabric In Frame: Position your fabric into the embroidery frame. Use your plastic guide as a template for positioning where you want your monogram to be applied on the fabric. In this example, I chose for my monogram to be at the top center of the trick or treat bag.
In this tutorial, I will be using the built-in embroidery fonts to complete my monogram name.
On the home screen, select the icon for the embroidery font function.
Next, you will be taken to the built-in font screen below. There are 5 built-in options to choose from. In this tutorial, I will be using font #2.
MODIFYING EMBROIDERY SIZE:
After selecting your desired font, begin typing in the letters of your embroidery name. In this tutorial, I will be using the name “BARON”.
There is a weird feature on the sewing machine that does not allow you to type in all the letters due to size. If you try to type in the third letter, a message will pop up on the screen that says “The pattern is too large for the embroidery frame.”.
The work around for this is to change the size of the letters. Hit “Close”. You can change the size of your letters by selecting the “M” in the icon “LMS” (Large/ Medium/ Small).
After you have selected all of your letters, you will want to maximize the size of your design. Next, select the “AD-JUST” icon and then the “Size” icon and make your image as large as possible.
Once you have your sizing preferences, drop down the Q foot and hit the green arrow button to begin your embroidery.
The embroidery will be completed letter by letter.
Once your embroidery is complete, turn the frame over and remove the fabric. Tear away your stabilizer and trim the stray thread.
Your final result will come out like this …..
You now have a custom trick or treat bag for $1!
I hope everyone has a nice Halloween! Stay tuned for additional posts on using your Brother SE-400 sewing machine for at home embroidery projects.
P.S. You’re like really crafty!
